Where I teach

From Changsha to Yamoussoukro: from AI for geophysics to a full geophysics, computing and hazards curriculum for the next generation of African geoscientists.

Since Sep 2026Current

INP-HB · Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny

Lecturer-researcher · Geophysics, computational geosciences & natural hazards

Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire

I teach applied and computational geophysics, computational geosciences and natural hazards to engineering students, and lead research in computational geoscience, natural hazards and mineral exploration.

  • Applied & Computational Geophysics
  • Computational Geosciences
  • Natural Hazards
Jun 2024 – May 2026

Central South University

Faculty researcher · Lecturer in AI for Geophysics

Changsha, China

I taught AI for Geophysics to undergraduate and master’s students at the School of Geosciences and Info-Physics, and mentored their research projects.

Courses

  • AI for Geophysics
  • Time-Series Forecasting for Earth Systems

Teaching philosophy

I teach geophysics and geoscience computing by linking theory to usable workflows. Students should leave with physical and mathematical intuition, practical coding habits, and the confidence to question models rather than simply run them.

01

Think from first principles

Build intuition for signals, physics, and uncertainty before treating machine learning as a black box.

02

Learn by building

Use guided projects and reproducible notebooks so abstract ideas become applied research skills.

03

Connect research to society

Frame technical work around groundwater, geohazards, and environmental decision-making.

Courses

What I teach today at INP-HB, and the AI courses I taught at Central South University.

Applied & Computational Geophysics

Engineering cycle

Geophysical methods from field acquisition to interpretation, with the numerical tools that turn measurements into subsurface models.

Topics covered

  • Electrical, electromagnetic and seismic methods
  • Data processing, forward modelling and inversion
  • Field surveys for water, mining and engineering

Computational Geosciences

Engineering cycle

Numerical methods and programming for geoscience data, from cleaning field datasets to building reproducible models.

Topics covered

  • Python and scientific computing for geoscience data
  • Numerical modelling and geostatistics
  • Machine learning for Earth data

Natural Hazards

Engineering cycle

How natural hazards form, how to measure and model them, and how to turn monitoring data into early warning and risk decisions.

Topics covered

  • Land subsidence, landslides and floods
  • Hazard monitoring and remote sensing
  • Risk assessment and early warning

Research mentorship

Guiding students through the full research cycle, from the first question to the final paper.

I mentor students through the full research cycle: defining a question, building the workflow, evaluating evidence, and communicating results clearly.

  1. 1Define the question
  2. 2Build the workflow
  3. 3Weigh the evidence
  4. 4Communicate clearly

“Good mentorship does not remove difficulty; it helps students grow strong enough to handle it.”
